Can I reliably identify this?

Is it possible for me to reliably identify this as A) close ratio B) a zf5-s47?? C) have the proper mounting to fit my 6.9?

you need to ask what engine was in the truck, and hope the guy does not lie. a 250 SHOULD have had a ZF5 speed.

I'm gonna call him tomorrow but I'm not really counting on anything he says, cause it sounds like he doesn't really know either.

Are they're features on the zf5 that I can visually identify it by?

Could the same method for testing axles be used by spinning the output flange and counting the turns to get to 1 rotation on the input?

The ZF5 is different looking than the other manual trans. I ant to say it has diagonal ribs on the side of the case. Google some pictures to see what they look like.

As far as the motor, not sure if there are pictures with dimensions of the mounting pattern or not. There are big block and small block gases, and the big block could be drilled for either 7.3 or 460 motors (but people have re-drilled 460 to fit the diesel pattern).

Yes you could spin and count to figure out ratios as long as you know which gear its in.
