I finally got coolant in my 59 F250 4x4 ranch find truck yesterday. As expected after a 20 year slumber, the water pump puked. Internet searching came up with a lot of Cardone 58-234 and prices all over the place. Some show out of stock. Many don't specify shaft size, some do. One piece of information that pops up a lot is after serial number 16,000. Also it seems the 5/8 shaft is only one digit off, I think 235.
Just for the record, does anyone know if the 5/8 shaft would work if you had the pulley, fan and spacer to match? Thanks
After working on this yesterday and today, I think I hit pay dirt with O'Rielly's. They list 3, the 30 something dollar one had just a bit too vague of descrition but there is a new one for $105 (specifically with the 3/4" shaft) and the warehouse shows to have one. I must have hit a dozen dead ends on the Cardone 58-234. Places list it but when you dig in, they don't have one and no idea when they will.
Thanks for doing the legwork WillowBilly, I stopped trying to figure out what's what with these, the partshouses are fairly useless these days unless one knows exactly what they need.
Well, I'm further in the dark, the more I dig.
I've been trying to work with the part # from numberdummy, B6C-8501B and it may be correct but Greens show it as a 5/8 shaft with the smaller impeller and a parts guy there today acted like he was looking at one (after a long wait on hold) and he also confirmed it as 5/8" shaft.
I'm also working with another obsolete Ford truck parts guy who has a B6C-8501B on his shelf and I'm waiting for verification that it is actually a 3/4" shaft and 4 7/8" impeller.
I've been working on this since last week and every lead I've ran down was out of stock or no longer available on the 58-234 Cardone and anything it crosses to. Although if you criss-cross enough, sometimes you end up back at the 58-235 which is the 5/8 shaft.
I even went to a junkyard today and looked at a 56 and a 57, both had the 3/4" shaft so I'm not even sure what year the 16,000 serial number pertains to.
If carpenter has 684 of the correct rebuild kits, maybe I should start rebuilding them. Nobody else will and my parts store said it's only the second time they ever remember being turned down.
Contents check. Wow! I think maybe even ordered (for once) the right parts? The shaft on the bearing measure just shy of 3/4" one side and 9/16" on the other. More fiddly bits than I thought there were. Looks like a press is required somewhere in this operation?

What does the impeller measure?
The Cardone reman number is 58-234 and it is the one most companys list but none of them have one, even A! Cardone's own site. The 488 crops up in different part numbers. MTC (Murrey Temp) is CP-488 but I think that is for 5/8". Also I have came up with eastern Industrys 18-2512 and AC Delco 252-773 but these numbers all get crossed *****-nilly with the other pump too so I don't know if any but the Cardone are reliable.
The impeller measures 4 and 3/4" in diameter. I found mo' parts in the box, under the flap was an envelope with a couple split rings or somesuch.
I bought the kit originally with an eye towards being able to make a roadside repair if necessary on a road trip away from home, on account that water pumps are basically unobtanium (or would be in BFE). Now I'm not so sure it would be doable, at least I don't have a warm and fuzzy on the procedure. Maybe look at some YT videos.

Ok, Bob Selzam in NJ had a pump and I have it coming. He measured it to confirm the 3/4 shaft and 4 7/8" impeller so numberdummy's part number is right and Greenes have bad info and apparently didn't make a physical inspection when I called them.
Odd though that Bob said his parts book made no mention of the 16,001 serial number designation. That's why I had him physically verify.
