1988 f150 straight six wiring connector issue

Hey guys, Yes I'm new here to the forums.

Just trying to see if any of you guys had some insight on a certain wiring harness that I've had severely corrode and then fall apart on me.

Its a gray 12 pin connector on the left fenderwell between the power/fuse box and the firewall.

Last year it was starting hard on and off and then this year when i went to move it (its a wood hauler used seasonally) it would crank and crank and crank no start, found the fuel pump wouldn't even cycle.

I popped the hood and just started looking at stuff and i saw green coming out of this connector and when i picked it up and turned it a little to look at it all the wires broke off and pulled out of the connector on one side so i don't even know what wires go to which, some are the same color some aren't and of course they are a series of a certain color with a different color stripe etc.

So if any of you guys that have this year/model that could do me kindness of either telling me which wire goes to which or a picture of the connector that would be great and I'd really appreciate it. I'm just going to bypass the connector and wire them directly.

Thanks in advance

1. We have no idea what connector you are talking about. Maybe you could take a photo of it and post it here or send it to me and I can post it.

2. A 1988 truck does not have a power/fuse box on the left fender. Are you talking about a 1998 truck? If so you need to post in the 1997-2003 F150 forum.

Yes it is indeed a 1988.

the connector is gray with about 12 to 13 wires, they corroded off on one side and pulled out of the connector.

in the picture shown where i have blue wire connectors is where the gray plug connector is suppose to be and the wiring colors and mostly different and no idea where they are suppose to match up with.

2 of the wires were already butt connected bypassing the plug and now the rest of them came apart.

hey i appreciate the reply but unfortunately no its not the same connector. they one i have is more square and has more wires going through it

I'm guessing you have a later model pickup like an 89 or 90?

i have a 1990 f150 that i compared the wiring to and the harnesses and connectors are a different setup, they look like the ones that you've posted

I believe only the 1987 and 1988 have matching wiring and then they changed it when they went to the 89 and 90 and probably changed it again in either 91 or 92 because the 92 i have is also different then both the 90 and 88.

very frustrating.

alright well i made some progress i have all the wires connected now and the truck will now crank but wont' start

i don't hear the fuel pump cycle so i either have another issue or i don't have something wired right.

on one side of the connector i had 3 red wires with blue stripes.....2 of them go into the same pin.

on the other side there is 2 red wires with blue stripes.

if i switch them around same result cranks but no start. if i leave any of those unhooked it won't crank at all.

now on the side closest to the fender where the 3 red blue striped wires are one comes from the bundle wires from the firewall and the other 2 come from the front of the truck.....i have no idea which 2 are suppose to go to the one pin

The red wires with a blue stripe run from the Ignition switch if it is an auto to the safety switch on the transmission and then to the starter relay on the passenger fender with one of the wires going to the TFI (ICM) module.

If it is a standard shift the then from the Ignition switch if it is an non-auto to the safety switch on the clutch and then to the starter relay on the passenger fender with one of the wires going to the TFI (ICM) module.
