Educate me on tires

Have a 16 f250 4x4 6.2. Looking at some 34x10.50r17 bfg a/t. They are a load range d tire, with a capacity of 3085. Will this tire work safely on my truck? Has anyone ran this size bfg a/t? I can't find the max psi on it, and don't want to deal with the tpms if it will not handle enough psi.

Max PSI on that tire is 65psi, overall diameter is 33.5" with a 10.5" section width. The factory tires max psi is 80lbs. I am not sure where the lower limit on the TPMS system is set from the factory. You could try lowering the pressure on one of your tires to 60psi and see if the sensor shows low pressure. If it does air up to 65psi and see. I am not sure if the TPMS system can be adjusted by the dealer.

You can get by with load range D tires if you don't max out the weight of the truck regularly. However load range E tires are more ideal as the they have more plies and stiffer sidewall.

If I were you I'd be looking at the LT285/70R17E. They are only 32.7" in diameter but max psi is 80psi and they are E rated tires. The section width is 1" wider however, tread width only .4" wider.

Specs on both.

I would get e-rated 10ply. I'm likely going with 285/75/17 which is almost 34" tall for my next set.

Roll with the tires you are looking at. Unless you are maxing out your gvw you don't need E rated tires. You will enjoy a smoother ride with no tpms lights as you can put enough air in them to satisfy your sensors.

Thanks guys, 285/75/r17 is the size I was actually wanting, but bfg only makes it in the m/t. They do make the 285/70/r17 in the a/t. I would also be interested in the pro como xtreme a/t if they made it. I simply want to stuff the largest tire possible in there on my stock rims, in an aggressive a/t that will give some mileage. I hate wheel well gap, and the stock 245 tires leave tons of it.

There are better choices in 16" tires. Will 16" wheels clear the calipers on the newer trucks. I love the old 8 hole 16" wheels from the early 2000's. With the leaf spring offset, they should set about flush or barely outside the fender.

I am a little worried about maxing out gvw. I will be towing my travel trailer, @1000 lbs tongue weight, and my 48v golf cart in the bed. Plus family of 4 and some cargo. I had read a little on the tpms, and was under the impression there were two different sensors available, based on psi.

The 16" wheels won't fit on the 05'up trucks. Ford went to the larger brakes in 05'.

If you're considering wheels as well, look at going to 18's. There seem to be more options there now days. Mickey Thompson has a 315/70R17 as well which is just over 34 inchs.
