87-91 PLAIN gates have FORD stamped into them
XLT and Lariat trucks have the aluminum with a red reflector
92-96 XLTs have the aluminum as well but have a black reflector

No. All 87-91 had the ford stamped into them. Even the ones with the aluminum had them, but they were covered

Makes me wonder if mine was replaced... dont remember seeing the ford stamp when I had the panel off. Im curious now.

Aftermarket gates are OK for they typical grocery getter. But dont plan on actually using one. They fold up like a pretzel

I put a big dent in the original tailgate, right in one of the letters. Very hard to fix. bought one from LMC until I could find the right one. It took years, and was expensive to finally get a NOS one in the box and have it painted to match. Huge weight difference between the LMC one and NOS.
