I'm looking to buy an 84 F100 with the straight 6 short box step side 2wd. The guy says it hasn't ran in 3 years. I don't know much about the 80s series of Ford so I was curious if '84 still had full on carb with the mechanical fuel pump or if it was that weird electronic ignition carb setup. Also, what would be some things I would need to look at before buying? And another thing, what do you think could be potentially easy fix?
It has the weird computerized carb setup. Down underneath there is still a good old 300 six, so it can be converted if needed to a older regular carb and dist.
Alright, thanks for that info. Whoops, looked closer at the pictures and saw the F150 logo. That's still good to me though. Now, when I go look at the truck, what are some things that I should be looking at? And also, what could be the potential issue in the truck not running?
I was going to say the letters on the hood were 80-81. 1982 was the first year the letters came off of the hood and the blue oval appeared in the grill.

I believe the amber lights in the front mark it as an '81...if I remember correctly the changeover from the white lenses occurred midway through the 1981 model year.
It's possible it has had a full front clip replacement; the style of lettering on the front fender emblems marks it as earlier than 1984 as well. I'd run the VIN through a decoder to verify the year before purchasing.
Good looking flareside, but that front end is saying it's an 80 or 81.
Yep and from the photo showing the fender side it looks like it has the small 80-81 F100/F150 style emblem vs the large lettered 82 and up F100/F150 emblem.
