2007 f-150 tow capacity and 7 pin connector question

Sure if I had the vin I wouldn't need to ask this but I don't so here goes......I went to look at a f250 last night and it was too beat up for me to buy, but the used car dealer had a 2007 crew cab f 150 that wasn't to shabby for not a horrible price. Problem was there no no hitch, worse than that it only had a four pin flat connector. Seller told me the hitch was removed because of it prior use so they wouldn't tow with it. He said he would throw one on to make the deal happen. My question is, what's the capacity if there is no seven pin? Could this be one of the truck in the 2000 lbs range? And second how hard will putting a seven pin and brake controller on? Will it be the full deal where I need to bring power from the battery to the brake controller and power to the seven pin? And signal from the brake controller to the seven pin? I have done this deal on a non tow capacity explorer so I know what's involved. I'm hoping this truck because it's a pickup will have a plug and play harness in the rear, maybe power is back there. If I get it I'd don't really want to go thru the ENTIRE seven pin and brake control deal that I did w/ explorer. Truck has 4.6L v8 and claims to have 3.73 gears. Thanks y'all.

What are you towing?

That '97 sounds like a pass to me.

2007 f-150 tow capacity and 7 pin connector question

From your other post it sounded like you were leaning towards a bigger truck than the 150 or Expedition. That would be a 250 or Excursion. If you visit the Jayco Owners forum and search posts about the 150 you will see many people's issues with tow capacity. They run out of payload first and you have to include tongue weight of trailer plus your weight distribution hitch. Didn't sound like you needed too much now but something to consider for future if your family grows or you want to upgrade trailers eventually.
Both our previous Expedition and current Excursion have the plug and play harness for brake controller behind the dash. They both already had the 7 pin though. You could easily check though when you go look at truck.

I'm towing 4000 lb trailer and assume 4500 when loaded. So figure 5000 would be safe. I was able to find the 07 fleet guide and I read with the 3.73 gears and the 4.6 I'd be at 6500 lbs with the crew cab. Yeah like the post above. I might be digging into my payload capacity with the tounge weight which I assume to be around 400-500lbs.

With 5000 # your tongue weight could be as high as 750. Range between 10-15%.

I am not sure but maybe someone more knowledgeable could respond. Would the 4.6 feel anemic? Our Expy had the 5.4 v8 with 3.73 and felt weak on inclines. We also had more passengers and a little bit heavier trailer.

No need to worry about that 4.6 f150. I just pick up this one with 3.73 gears, triton 5.4L, seven pin and it has a brake controller!

. Now I can tow 7,100lbs

. Thanks. I would have loved a v10 or v8 gas excursion but they are hard to find, plus I can't carry a dirt bike in the back when towing my camper. This should do just fine.

Congratulations. I've pulled trailers with a 4.6. The heaviest was about 5K when I was moving. I mostly used it to haul mowers.

I prefer the 4.6 over the 5.4 strictly from a reliability standpoint.
