Ford Wire Connectors

Good Day...In looking at the wiring diagram for the 1967 F100 I noticed that the connectors are designated by a capital alpha letter. Does anyone have a clue as to the connector part numbers that have been designated with letters? Thanks in advance...Al

Good Day FE...Thanks for the diagram. It's kinda unreadable even when I blow it up. Do you have a link for this? Thanks...Al

This doesn't answer your original query but here's the link to a ton of info.

Don't bother with that schematic, it's not for your year of truck (it's for a 1970).

One of the things that has tripped me up a couple of times with the schematics of this vintage has to do with whether the vehicle has gauges or indicator lights. The schematics are not the same and for good reason, they cannot be the same. Providing signals to the indicator lights is usually a binary situation (do you have oil pressure or not?), but for gauges, you sometimes need a positive current or perhaps you need a negative current (an ammeter will show whether the system is charging or discharging, and might indicate how much it's charging). Gauges don't just deal with 'voltage on' or 'voltage off', they also have to deal with 'how much'. Further, gauges tend to be 'current-sensitive', while indicator lights tend to be 'voltage-sensitive'.

So the wiring, while having some commonality of function, is different, based on differences in the Instrument Cluster.

These differences track from the Instrument Cluster all the way back to the Voltage Regulator. The connector for the Voltage Regulator will be wired differently for the IC with gauges than for the IC with indicator lights.

To make sure this doesn't throw you off, verify that the schematic you are looking at is correct for the type of Instrument Cluster you are working on. If the schematic has both arrangements (a part for gauges and a part for indicator lights), you may want to shade out the inappropriate part with light pencil lines, just enough to catch your eye as a reminder that it's the wrong area of the schematic. If you won't need to look at that part of the schematic again, you could mark it out with black ink or obliterate the wire paths with white-out.

Hopefully, this will help you avoid getting "lost in the woods". This stuff is confusing enough as it is, without having to worry about being in the wrong part of the schematic.

BTW, I turned 18 in boot... was in from '73 to '76... and the Navy, in its infinite wisdom, put me in the Mojave Desert for a year and a half... so I never left stateside.

Glad you made it back.

Hey there Thipdar thanks for the welcome back and thank you for your service time as well. Yes, I have been looking at some of the schematics on Fordification and I have noticed that few of the OEM wires with their respective stripping does not balance with the schematics in some cases. This may be a result that Henry liked to change things up so that his people would be alert haha. But, in any case those schematics do help out. I have ordered a vehicle/year specific wiring diagram from an online vendor and its color coded which if correct, should help me out. Although I am going to be replacing the entire wiring harness from bumper to bumper, I am trying to tackle the smaller groups first.

For instance, I am currently looking for the OEM correct wires to replace the instrument panel harness with its 12 pin connector. I am also looking for sources for those 90 degree push on wire connectors but so far I have only come across the ones for spark plus. Obviously these are way too big for what I currently need. I may need to use Molex or WeatherPack connectors unless FoMoCo/Motorcraft has them. As a last resort I will probably go with a Painful or American Auto Wire or such product but, I would rather make my own thus the need for finding the correct wire terminals/connectors.

BTW, I did have an opportunity to get a "taxi" ride (military joke) on one of those NAVY warships back in the day. I gotta say, the Navy has the best food supply for sure.

I keep looking at the Instrument Cluster connector and thinking "MOLEX"... but I can't prove it.

If you are going to re-wire in stages, I have to recommend that you do the primary wiring first. Alternator, Battery, Distributor, Ignition, etc. The second stage would be the external lights and horn, third stage would be instrumentation (engine temp, oil pressure, etc.) and last would be the creature comforts (dome light, radio, A/C, etc.)

That may not be so easy to do, especially if you replace the fuse block with something more contemporary.

It's a big project, but if you do it right, it should last a long time.

OTOH, you may be right... do what you're comfortable doing, and keep at it.

Good Day Gary:

Dude you are a lifesaver with that post #11. I have the other 2 already. I knew I had seen that diagram on Fordification some time ago but I couldn't find it in the Tech section where all the schematics are. Can you advise where exactly it is cause I am looking for the 12 pin connector that comes from the instrument panel. I may just go with a Molex 12 pin if I cannot find the OEM version. Thanks Brother for that info!...Al
