I bought 6 volt halogen headlights from NAPA. Just installed them last week. Haven't driven it at night yet. Supposed to draw less amperage than stock headlights.
I replace mine with LED and could not be happier. Just run them through a relay and you should be good! Really makes a world of difference.
This. I've done the headlight relay upgrade a few times over the years on many different trucks, and it is the only way to go. It makes your stock headlights so much brighter. If you're running halogens instead of regular sealed beams and pulling more juice through a stock harness and switch, it's a must-do.
I drive my truck quite a bit. About a year ago I changed over to the LED headlights, if you drive at night I would strongly recommend going with the LED. They draw less current, they are brighter and they last longer. Just my 2 cents....

They're not bad if you don't mind blinding everyone. Wonder how many wrecks they have caused. I've always felt if you need more light turn on the high beams, at least they can be dimmed back to low beams as needed.

Amen to that! Aftermarket LED's don't aim very well, and technically they are illegal. Reference FMVSS-108.
I bought six volt halogens for my '53. I assumed that all there is to do is plug them in and go. I'm waiting for Abe to report on how well they work out. My own truck won't be on the road for a few more months....
I bought halogens a few years ago but I'm thinking about changing to LEDs. I bought a harness with relays included. Several of the suppliers have them . . . here is the one from LMC truck Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
I'm not sure what the draw is on the LED headlamps. If they are less that the original lights you may not need a relay.
