Ok I almost have all the ducks lined up . I have a wiring schematic. I have the headliner. I have the console. and module. All I need to know is are sun visors different. Is so I think I have them. I got a pair from a 2001 Expedition same color even .

Expedition visors should be the same as a higher-spec F150. Mine (97 Expy XLT) have mirrors and lights in them with no visible wiring. I suspect they routed it through the mount, same way I did wiring for my RX7's boost & wideband gauge pod.
Keep us posted on your progress. BTW, did you get the 1button or 2button display?

I think you're right. I will know for sure when I take a trip to the salvage yard this weekend. I need the center support where the console actually mounts to through the headliner . The wiring looks easy . It is all starting to come together. I'm having fun with this project
I will end up with the OHC and lighted visors I will post before and after pics

I1m hitting the yard this weekend to get a third console. Last one (01 1button setup) was DOA, so I'm trading it in for some digital HVAC parts and getting a 2button console from another yard. Had I been thinking, I would have grabbed it last week...

If all else fails there are you tube videos that shows how to repair the display module. If your decent with a soldering iron it's doable. I repaired the digital radio and odometer displays in my 99 F-150 via the you tube videos

Unfortunately, soldering is one skill I've yet to be proficient at. Whenever something requires soldering, or is ridiculously tiny like doing surgery on my phone, I usually have my buddy Matt do it for me. When I cracked open the display, he scoped it out and nothing looked obviously abnormal like a leaking capacitor (common on FD RX7 gauge clusters), singed section (our dimmer switches...) or broken wiring/traces. Plus, it was a 00+ 1 button display and I want the proper full-featured 2 button setup to display fuel economy as well.
Well, Lady Luck was on my side today. From the same donor truck I grabbed the digital HVAC Controls, I found a pre-extracted (though slightly hacked in wiring) 2 button fully-optioned (with vent window switches...) overhead console. So I put it in the back seat, grabbed the ratchet and set to yanking the dashboard to which my buddy Todd and I hacked up part of last friday. 2 hours and $15 later, I had a digital blend door actuator, digital blower controller, inside air temp sensor (with duct line), compass module, and the console, all with pigtails. A week ago, I got the digital HVAC controls from it too. Test hot wiring (2 power, 1 ground) will make the display light up for a second, then turn back off.
I put the schematics on my phone, but forgot to charge it *facepalm*. But on a leap of faith, I wired it up (2 power wires, 2 grounds) and she instantly came to life. FYI, it displayed "98 Miles To Empty" with no sensors attached.
Donor truck was a 99 Expedition Eddie Bauer edition for all of the parts.
Glad things worked out for you . I went to the salvage yard to day to get a headliner for the OHC . Looks like another slight set back . I took the headliner from a 2001 . Well the 99 up to 03 has both rear doors that open . The 97-98 has only the right door .
Well the headliner is different . It is conformed for the left rear door which mine doesn't have . So back to the drawing board . Going to have to some how fabricate the 01 headliner. I know it can be done just don't know how I want to do it yet.
Going back to the S.Y. tomorrow, forgot to get the ambient temp sensor and wiring .
I also got the complete wiring harness for the OHC. That included up to the dome and the third brake light.
At least now I how the wiring is configurated that's going to be the easy part

Sorry for the late reply, but could you do me a favor while there? I posted a bit of cross-reference info in the "Auto climate control" thread I took over. Think you could scout the 00-05 Kia Optima/Hyundai Sonatas for me and get a pic of where they are under the hood? They use the same ambient temp sensor on their digital HVAC system (look for a screen in the controls, base models are dials/buttons). Might be easier to find one there too.
After getting my 2-button console and combing over what was available through Chilton TotalAccess at the library for 97-98, 99 and 00-02, I cannot seem to find which pins in the trip computer display are for the ambient temperature sensor. My 99 display is configured for it, but does not appear to 'activate' that section for some reason. Could someone with either a Ford FSM CD/DVD or a 99+ Expy/Navi with a factory 2 button please chime in with where to wire in the sensor? All I could find was for the 00+ 1 button setup
First I didn't fire up my computer till late this evening. I wasn't there long enough to get everything I went for do to the torrential down pour. It rained like hell a half hour after I got there. Almost got stuck in the middle of 5 acer's of mud.
If you are trying to get the colors of the wires you should have a pink with black tracer and a light blue with an orange tracer. Those go directly to the sensor
Torrential downpour...are you in Ohio too? We got such this afternoon as well
I re-reviewed the conversion document I made and could not find either the Pink/Black (sensor return) and L.Blue/Orange (ambient temp sensor input) in the 2-button overhead trip computer wiring diagrams for both 97-98, 1999/00-02. The 00-02 1 button console has it on pins 5 and 6.
In the Digital HVAC section, they're visible clear as day with terminal numbers for easy identification as well.
SteveIII, can you clarify which terminals you used are the correct ones for the ambient temp sensor on the overhead console? Pins 1, 6, 10, 11 and 20 are seemingly unused

I took a quick look and it appears to be pins 2 & 6 for the sensor. When I get a chance to get my computer back on, I'll confirm everything. Hopefully one of the connectors I got today at the junkyard will have compatible terminals in it. Got one from an analog HVAC unit and a bunch of Metripack to replenish my stock
