So about a week ago i was driving and turned a corner and half my exhaust fell off, from the muffler all the way back to the tail pipe, rusted through and just gave out i guess. Not a big deal, i went and bought some adapters and a 10' section of SS straight tubing and put a straight pipe from where it fell off. Well Friday i was driving 50 miles away down back roads and hit a 2' pothole ( was filled with water, didn't know it was that deep ) and broke the front of the exhaust this time, basically how the two pipes come down from the stock exhaust manifolds into the resonator i think it is? Well both pipes broke off from there. I attempted to pull the rest of the exhaust that was still on that was broke off today ( from cat to res ) but ran into some issues. Theres a medal tube/pipe that runs from right after the res. up to a valve it looks like and that runs into i guess a vacuum or air assembly or something, I will try to find some pictures and attach them at the end to kinda show what im talking about. My main question is what is that tube / pipe for that goes into the exhaust after the res. I was thinking it had something to do with the EGR system. The two pipes that come off the engine manifolds are still fine but right after the 02 sensor is basically where its broken off the res, probably 2-4 inches away from the 02. So is it possible to just do a delete off that pipe/tube and just run dual straight pipes from each exhaust manifold tube where they broke from the res? Or do i actually need that pipe/tube thats in the exhaust pipe after the res? Any clarity would be much helpful
From a quick google/ebay search i found something called the exhaust air inlet tube emissions from a ebay listing that looks just like the pipe im talking about... Still not really sure what it does or is for / can be deleted
That tube is from the air pump. It adds air into the exhaust to help clean up emissions.
Seriously? That stupid tube only does that? I spent 4 hours trying to get the rest of the cat / res off but that tube gave me so much issues, i still dont have the whole thing off yet. If thats the case then I can just block it off right? Or technichally just let it hang if wanted since it more or less just blows air...I dont care much about emissions or id be driving a hybrid green smart car
If I remember correctly there is a clamp that holds it on. Agree it is a pain to get back on or off. The problem is that unless you are replacing the cat conv there will be a hole in the system if you don't reattach the tube or cap it off.
I'm also not a huge 'green' person but I do keep what was on there working. I'm not going to be driving a Prius anytime soon.

A pain was a huge understatement when it was rusted together, ended up cutting the base of the pipe from the exhaust pipe to get the rest of the broken exhaust system off, i haven't re-piped it yet so its still dumping the exhaust out of the two pipes coming down off the engine but i left the tube i cut attached to the air supply or whatever it was connected to up top and it did throw a cel for a breif minute when i went full throttle but hasn't done that again since. Runs like it did a week ago. I do not plan on replacing the cat or res, my idea was dual straight pipes all the way from the front to the back, so i guess i should plug the hole from the pipe or maybe just leave it? Also had another idea of attaching a bung hole into one of the straight pipes and welding the tube into that so it would kinda be like how it use to be...not sure if that would work or matter though
Sounds like a good time to install long tubes and a good aft system.
Honestly i would love to, but this is just a little 302 with 210k on it, wouldn't be worth it right now. Im not sure how much longer i will even have it as im really trying to find a 87-96 f150 /f250 4x4 with little to no rust at all. Dont really feel like dumping in 500$ for tubes n such if im only going to have the truck for a few more months
