I have a question about an exhaust problem I am having with my 92 F150. First off I am a newbie when it comes to mechanics so forgive my description. On the exhaust pipe between the 2 cats. there is a tube (much like conduit) that conects to a fitting on the pipe and then snakes its way upwards and forward and connects to something. My problem is that where is should connect to the exhaust pipe its loose. When I accelerate it sound like a bad muffler The fitting on the pipe looks fine. What is this tube called? And is replaceing it an easy thing to do? Would appreciate and and all help.
.
In the olden days (my 1984 F150) they had a tube like that for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. I suppose they still use EGR on modern (1990s) engines and that may be what you have. You need to plug any leaks to avoid carbon monoxide in the cab.

It pumps fresh air into the exhaust for better emmisions. if that is the tube you can pick up a repair kit at your local parts store.
The EGR tube runs from the manifold on the newer engines(I Think)
Hello
Thanks for your help. It was a fresh air tube. I couldnt find a replacement in any of the local parts stores. I found a universal kit at JCW, but I shyed away from it because I didnt know if I could bend the tube to exactly how I needed it. I got the part at the local Ford dealership and installed it early yesterday evening.
