OK here goes. When I first got my 1988 351w E250, I noticed that occasionally the van would feel like the fuel flow was being interrupted or a cylynder wasnt firing. I gave it a tune up and it does it less frequently but still does it sometimes. When it happens it only last's for about 10-15 seconds. It's that running out of gas feeling. after the tune up I have no idea where to check next. The fuel pump is either on or off right? It wouldnt just sometimes kick off would it?
Thanks
It sounds like a spark problem.
Maybe it’s your coil, the TFI coils seem to not last long.
You also may need to change your fuel filter, or you may have had some water in your gas.
The fuel pump may be the culprit, could you test the fuel pressure somehow, can you predict when the problem happens?
Hook up the fuel pressure tester and drive around until it happens, when it does observe the pressure, if it starts fluctuating, it’s a fuel problem. If not spark problem
It could your fuel pump, dirty fuel filter, or fuel pressure regulator.
On the other hand if it’s a spark problem it could be many things.
So maybe get a coil, there real inexpensive at AutoZone.
And If it still happens, check the fuel pressure, okay.
You could try reading my reply to "302 miss" by cwmerc88. It sounds like the same problem. Try it first as it may save you the cost of a lot of un-needed tuneup items like I bought.
