7.5 Quarts in 6.2!!
After the dealership jerked me around and "forgot" to change the oil in my truck even though I had an appointment, the keys were in their night drop box and the truck was parked about 6' from the service department door, I took my truck to a reputable independent shop for an oil and filter change - I even specified to use a Motorcraft filter.
After I got home this afternoon, I noticed the receipt had 7.5 quarts Kendall Full Synthetic on it - called them back and sure enough, they put 7.5 quarts in it. Their thought was 7 quarts is called for for the engine and the filter holds about a pint. I popped the hood and sure enough, the oil level on the dipstick is slightly above the "MAX" hole.
It is raining sideways here and the truck is too tall to fit in my garage, so draining the 1/2 quart out myself is not an option - at least today.
I have two charters Saturday and two Sunday which means I need the truck all weekend and will not have time to take care of it until at least Monday (after I have driven it 75+ miles)
My question to the collective is.....IS THIS EVEN WORTH WORRYING ABOUT? I mean it's only an extra pint in a fairly large V-8. I know the owners manual states that if the dipstick reads over the MAX line the excess should be drained or serious engine damage could occur but my gut tells me I am being **** retentive and it's not a big deal.
As far as changing my own oil and avoiding problems like this..... I only wish I had the time. A full-time job + over time and I run a charter boat. I sometimes don't know whether I am coming or going.

Me either - next time I will be more specific with them: Use a Motorcraft filter and use ONLY 7 quarts and not a teaspoon more.

I just looked at Fords website and it said its ok to fill to the max mark on the dipstick. In my 2016 F350 7.5 Qts puts it right at the top hole in the dipstick where the owners manual says is the max fill mark. I agree it also says the engine says it takes 7 qts. It states anywhere between the max and min marks on the dipstick if in the operating range. I have and always fill mine to the max. You are fine in my opinion.

I highly doubt it would hurt anything, just may possibly cause a little extra drag on the crank. When you get time you could drain a little out if you want. Though the engine will likely use a little oil over the OCI.
As far as I know Ford factors in the filter when they list the 7 quart specification. I have never been able to get a pint of oil in a Fl-820s filter either, it doesn't hold much.

I do my own oil changes...
to the MAX mark on my 6.2L is 7.5 quarts.... as I buy oil by the 5 quart jug.. so I buy 2 jugs.. and save the remainder for the next time. or for the wife's car, motorcycle, or whatever OTHER engine needs oil. or a oil change.
as I use synthetic oil. and with the limited miles per year (5,000 miles).. most get an oil change once a year.

My owner's manual says 7 qts
I must say, lots of other cars that I've had, I always put in what the owner's manual said, but most of them were slightly below the dipstick mark after driving them for a little bit. I'm sure there is some wiggle room in the system (probably 200 mls or a cupful-ish) in most cars.
I always check after an oil change and make sure the level is full. Oil is cheaper than metal parts.
