Head back toward the firewall from the Hi side. The suction fitting is tucked under the large plastic casing (evaporator coil?) that bulges from the firewall on the passenger side. Hard as the dickens to get to and attach a line. Feel around, you'll find it.

It's tricky to get at but it is there. If you peek where Buzzard said to you will see it. Look for the plastic cover that covers the 2 fuses and it's almost dirctly below it facing toward the front of the truck. Look at the tag in the engine compartment, if you have rear air it holds over 4 lbs compared to just over 2 lbs. for trucks without rear air. I havn't seen an 03 yet, and you havn't said what year you have.

The 03 has changed designs for those who are interested. The accumulator is now up front under the core support on the passenger side and the low side fitting is on the line about midway on the inner fender.

AC not working

Hello. I have a 97 Expedition and I am also having trouble finding the "low-side" port. My haynes manual tells to fill at the clearly visible port (high-side?) as shown here:

Does the graphic show the proper place to fill A/C?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is the low side port. The high side port is on the pipe near the core support and is much larger fitting.

Ok thanks. That's what I thought... until I found two different threads saying the high-side was clearly visible but the low-side was not.

This port is right in the open. What are these people talking about saying it is tricky and difficult to get at? Has this changed for different year expeditions?

Its on the accumulator, which is tucked under all those electrical wiring connectors. Some are more heavily wired than others.

AC not working

Thanks for the help. Im trying to find the leak in my A/C system. A local shop quoted $1320 to fix last summer and I have been without A/C ever since (in Florida).

After they charged it, it lasted 3-4 weeks.

Their quote includes:
new compressor
evaporator core
orfice tube
flush system

I find that hard to believe...

Those are the common components if the compressor is leaking and there is heavy contamination in the orifice tube. The evaporator is something that rarely leaks. You might just have a rubbed through spot in one of the lines. 3 weeks is a pretty fast leak, and compressors generally dont leak that fast unless the front seal is really bad. If you take the 8mm headed bolt from the clutch hub and remove the hub, you can see how much oil has accumulated there. If the oil is very heavy then you have a substantial compressor leakage. If not I would look at the lines, especially the ones that rest near sharp objects near the body.

Thanks for all the help. It is greatly appreciated. I just threw a can in and my guage is reading 25psi on the low-side port. I'll take your advice and check the oil at the compressor. Will also watch for any leaks and try to check the lines.

Enjoy the holiday.
