I have a new 2015 F-150 Supercab with aluminum body. Recently had the truck in a Ford dealership for service to a squeaky passenger window that included replacing the window regulator. The next day following service we noticed a "pimple" in the door exterior skin, obviously a result from the repair done on the interior of the door. The dealership tells me the new aluminum skin can be fixed without filler or paint. The only problem is the paint is clearly stressed in all directions from the high point of the pimple (visible with magnifying glass). My concern is that without painting the damaged area it will crack over time. Also, how would the dealer flatten the pimple without damaging the door or paint further?
I'm not happy about this whole affair and would like some opinions and what my "bottom line" should be in making this right. FYI, I want a new door. That should fix both problems. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
I voted to allow the dealership to correct it, but, I would get them (or attempt to get them) to have a plan "B" in place to replace if necessary. I believe if you attempt to hold their feet to the fire initially (door replacement) will just cause you added delays and have them less receptive to doing what it takes to make it 100% in the long term.
If it was me, I'd prefer them NOT to paint it. Factor paint is very good. Suspect the dealership body shop can't match that level of quality, and is unlikely to match the rest of the truck too.
Paintless Dent Repair (Aka PDR) is truly amazing. That would be my first choice.
I voted to let them perform the repair that they recommended. Paintless Dent Removal is an art form now, but I agree with the others, it should be fixed to your satisfaction and if their plan doesn't work, it's not wrong to have a plan B.
