Hey guys I bought a 1999 Superduty 7.3 6 speed and went out to drive it yesterday and noticed my speedometer stops working at 40mph. I saw many posts about this but no fixes. Any ideas? Bad cluster or vss? No abs light on dash. Still runs and shifts good. Only one yellow airbag light illuminated on dash
This is a pretty common failure of the cluster in the 99-01 trucks. Call us at 800-547-2049, and we will talk through the options of repair/replacement.

Well now it won't even start, shut it off at Walmart and went inside. Came out to start and it just cranks fastly no fire. No tach reading, good oil pressure, all dash lights work no check engine lights... Cam sensor?
Yeah i have one i can borrow from the technical school i attend. I plan on doing this in a couple hours when i get out of class. Any ideas of what to check besides fuel pressure and rpm? i figured if the scanner wouldnt show rpm then that would mean the cam position sensor is bad, i was told these engine do not have a crankshaft position sensor. I believe it still has compression it is just turning over quickly, could this be from a bad cam sensor? like the computer doesent have any timing, i feel like it is just going at the power of the starter.
If your not getting a rpm signal then it's either the cam sensor or wiring. The oil gauge only reads base engine oil pressure not the injector control pressure. For that you need to monitor the ICP and that should be at least 500psi and the IPR 14% for the injectors to be enabled by the pcm.

Spot on.
I'm still concerned that it's cranking faster than normal though.
