2005+ hub assembly replacement

The passenger hub started making a squeal signaling a bearing failure last week. So i jacked up the truck and am seeing alot of play pretty much confirming my suspicion of a failed unit. I also have had a abs light on since i got the truck so now ive parked it and will be waiting to order parts for the truck. Ive always used either auto zoo lifetime parts on other trucks for this type of failure with the ifs stuff i had with reasonable sucess. On heavier duty trucks i went timken. So as i started looking at part prices though they are all over the place. The older 04 and down trucks are cheap to do this job but the 05 amd up the price doubles. What is the scoupe? Also are there any specialty tools to do the replacement. Im assuming i will need a new set of snap ring pliers since i am sure ive lost the last ones i bought. But past that should i need anything out of the ordinary or special snapring pliers. I dont mind going with a more expensive hub assembly if needed but im not really wanting to spend 400 bucks for it. Does anyone have experience with any of them? Id prefer more experience that a few weeks ago like maybe 30k or over a year running a cheap hub assembly if possible. The truck in question is not in my signature. It is a 2005 ccswb powerstroke with manual hubs and tcase.

Yea Lubbock , can't believe nobody has answered you, anyway if you look on ebay you can find all kinds of hubs and related parts.......$400 WOW! No way they should cost that much.....Good luck

If you go into it deeper that the unit bearing you will also need a tool to set the
vacuum seals in the knuckle. The 05+ trucks use a larger axle so you can't use
one of the tools meant for the 04 and older trucks. Also they have an updated
tube seal for the outboard end of the axle housing and it seals better.

They can get real Ford parts at a good price and have fast shipping.

After much thought i ended up getting s skf hub assembly. The truck has manual hubs so vacuum issues will not be a problem. I really wanted to try a less expensive brand but my confidence wasnt very high on them. I found a skf for about 50 bucks more than the cheapest timken hub. The skf includes the 4 mounting studs and being as the truck is from salt country i feel it was a bonus vs oem or timken. From my talks with the previous owner about the abs light he said that one hub was replaced for 300 bucks or more then the other went out and he found one online for a hundred bucks. So my gut tells me he cheaped out and it didnt last. Skf is a premium brand with quality at or above oem. The skf had the snap ring as well. Im hoping there isnt much else wrong once i get it apart. Kinda miss driving the cheap truck. The 06 though is probably enjoying the attention. I just hope they quit getting parts envy and breaking so ill work on them

Pulled the hub. Found parts of a spring im assuming that goes with the speed sensor. The hub was a db axle from 6-2014 that was what was mfg printed. Now for a quick question the yellow gasket. Is it absolutely nessisary i have manual hubs. The skf hub assy didnt come with it so im planning on cleaning the old yellow oring and re using it

Scratch that. The stud kit in the skf box has what appeared to be 3 orings at first. In a panic i began to look for those 3 orings and their placement then i realized it was infact a match to the yellow oring gasket so everything is good

Everything went alot smoother than expected. The abs sensor looked trashed which wasnt much of a supprise since ive been getting the code since i bought the truck. The hub assembly was infact junk im glad i parked it when i did. I will make it clear that there is no bolt holding the axle in the hub assembly only a snapring. You will need longer ones that open pretty wide. The generic auto parts store ones wont get in there and work worth a crap. I bought some nice channel lock brand ones that didnt work. Dug around the shop and found some nipex ones that worked like a champ

The hub that was installed is labeled db axle with what id take as a date code of 6-28-14. So for those like me looking for longivity this unit failed between now and then. This dosent account for any shelf time it may have spent before it was sold. I also cannot give miles since ive maybe put 8-10k since november.
