So I have an 01 f150 super crew and I haul a 20 foot car hauler with quads and dirt bikes and I also want a stiffer suspension to prevent sag and just prefer to have a higher towing capacity. What are my options as far as leaf springs or air bags ? Thanks.
A good starting point is to see what spring you have on your truck right now. Easiest way is to see what your spring code is on your VIN sticker in the door jam. That way you can see what type of spring capacity you have on there right now.
Can't speak for other companies but you would have a few spring options with us, whether it's a true Heavy Duty leaf springs or something we tweak here to give you a little more weight capacity but nothing to kill your ride.
Just an option but we set up a lot of guys with a slightly higher capacity spring and supplement it with a Timbren system. Just one way of going about it.
I just finished installing the exact setup that MBaldo did. Same location for the compressor and everything. Getting the compressor up there was the hardest part. It's a great protected location but a bugger to reach up in there. So far it is working perfect. At 5lbs I can't even detect that I have air bags. Zero difference in ride. As I tow a couple different things, including a toy trailer that I load with different stuff, which means different weights, the adjustability is exactly what I need. Besides the hideous look of a squat it also affects the handling. Kills 2 birds with 1 stone.
I have Timbrens on my 17 F150. The great thing about them is they do not come in to play until you load up. There is also SuperSpring that makes a spring that bolts on and needs to see a specific amount of sag before they start to work.
I have the super springs on the back of my F150, sits higher than factory, but ride is still decent unloaded. Hitch the trailer on and it’s lever without the bars on from the weight distribution hitch. Hook the bars up, and tows the 6800lb trailer great!
