I just typically leave the tablet asleep, and just start the truck as normal, the tablet usually auto connects with in a short time usually on average 30 seconds to a minute that may be in part due to me leaving torque running and just putting the tablet to sleep while torque is still "on" (the tablet usually stays connected to the charger anyways)
Ditto on this. Mine is permanently mounted like Rich's and I have a similar wait, although mine does drop connection from time to time. I have the same Bluetooth adapter, so I think it's torque itself.
It took me 13 seconds to read and absorb the significance of all the data presented in ZooDad's screen shot. I wonder how many cars I can hit in 13 seconds?
Yea, it can be a bunch. But I glance at specific things for quick reference.

For this very reason right here, I keep my screen as uncluttered as possible. While speed may be a good thing to log for later review, I don't know that I'd choose to see my speed in multiple gauges and formats - but that's me. I think using the dash to set the cruise control has me covered. I have 6 large gauges per screen, and if I need some information from another screen - well that's why I mounted it so close to my fingers. A quick flip of the forefinger will get me what ever information I need, and a finger flip takes zero concentration - ask anybody without a horn.
I have all my gauges arranged in the same order on all my apps - this prevents the need for my eyes to wander if I change apps. I also have my alarms set, so watching the gauges is not a must - just an occasional scan like the dash gauges. When I do look down, I afford myself 1 or two gauges per glimpse - suicidal deer are too quick to allow much more.
I am not sure about others but for me the tablet is just "there", its for the alarms (however I can't seem to figure out a way to make torque play actual audio files for the alerts instead of just flashing the gauge) just like the HU with sat nav is there for reference I don't typically use it for its actual intended purpose of turn by turn, I use it as a way to know when my known street is coming up, or if traffic is crappy out, a way to plan my alternate path to avoid things on the fly.
