messed this up posted new




i need help identifing this motor it has the mirror 105 and its a D3TE block

casting / part #s
intake manifold C5AE-9425C
exhaust manifold C3SE9431B & 5C8
bell housing C1SP-7976-A
casting by 1st spark plug is 43
casting in between 2nd & 3rd

FE or FT block. the D3 block casting tells me it is most likely a 390.

how can i tell for sure what it is? I really need to try and sell it but i have to find out what it is and what its worth first

the only way to know for sure what it is is to pull a head and measure the bore and stroke.

i should be able to do that with directions. Are there any good instructions for pulling a head and measure the bore and stroke on this forum?

to measure stroke pull a spark plug and piece of stiff wire int he plug hole. slowly turn the engine over until it reaches bottom and mark the wire. then slowly turn engine over until the piston tops out and mark the wire again. measure the difference. if you get 3.78 inches, it is a 390

3.98 stroke will either be a 410 mercury/edsel/lincoln engine, or a 428 ford engine.
do you have any idea what it came out of?

I think a station wagon it has Mercury FE pentroof lightning valve covers

if it was from a merc wagon with merc markings on the valve covers, i am going to say 410

Two threads going. That engine is a mish-mash of parts, but could still be a 410. Just not an OEM 410, but rather one built in the field by a prior owner. More graphic detail here:
