Thermostat Question???

OK, here it goes... Does the thermostat get installed with the rubber ring on it or does the rubber ring come off before you install it...

Kinda dumb question but had to ask...

I installed a new one last year and it's not working (it was) it stuck wide open so the truck ain't warming up, and I did take the rubber ring off the thermostat!!!

i don't remember a rubber ring at all ..

u probably know this but only use dealership thermostats ..

other then that just drain flush coolant so less particles floating around to clog up that valve ..

I took mine off; it fit into the groove without it, but not with it. Works great! (I have an aftermarket digital temp gauge and can see when it opens and closes).

Question Thanks for the info on this!

Much appreciated, I did take the rubber ring off when installed last time... How long does it take to warm up???

I have a new rad, new water pump, new coolant... It was working great but lately it takes a long time to warm, so I do believe I have a faulty T-Stat...

Thanx,

my truck takes awhile to warm up ..

doesn't get into normal range for at least 10 minutes i'd say ..

sitting it can idle 20 minutes probably before it's warm ..

diesels are just comparatively cooler running then gas engines ..

i also recently installed an aluminum / plastic radiator and my motor now gets cold at times .. below normal range .. till i **** on it then it gets back up there .. maybe just the new rad
