Catalytic Convertor failure

Hey guys, my 2012 F-150 XLT V8 catalytic converter needs to be replaced.
Could you please advise which brand to use as a replacement? is the Davico Mfg reliable in this case?

I can't answer your question about Davico, but I just wants to comment and make sure that it wasn't still under warranty. I think the converter and other parts of the emissions system have an extended warranty, like maybe 8 years/80,000 miles.

No warranty as i passed 80000 miles already. What about removing the catalytic converter? would the sound be like crap?

then the check engine light would be on because it checks to make sure the cats are doing their job.

How do you know it needs to be replaced? Check engine light on?
I am afraid the one on my Town Car has a metallic rattle when it is cold. Off topic but does anyone if that is possible?

The engine light is on and the error given through the scanner is about the cat. The mecanic confirmed that i need to change the cats. The truck power has been diminished as well.
Now what choices do i have? Can i replace the cats with something else? What about hollowing my cats, would my truck sounds like crap?

You either replace them with OEM or performance cats from Flowmaster or similar.

Thanks for the tips but Flowmaster doesn't have the catalytic converter for this truck model (2012). Any other reliable manufacturer?

It would sound like crap if you hollow them out.It would be loader though. I ran a few cars with no mufflers straight off the cats, put x pipes on which take cats off and ran through mufflers also.

Sounds like some more diagnosis is in order unless you want to be repeating the same repair down the road. Check out this article:

Look upstream for the culprit in a converter failure - Eastern Manufacturing

I wouldn't hollow out the cat. It makes the truck obnoxiously loud, smelly, and is illegal.

Plus you have sensors after the cat. You would need a tune that simulated the proper signal from the sensors. Otherwise, it is not going to run right.

I would just put a new cat on, don't think aftermarket generic fit is very expensive.

Eastern Catalytic is a good option as well, they're one of the larger aftermarket companies that makes direct-fit cats.

But NONE of them are a good option until you figure out why yours went bad.
