Updating Sync

lately I've been playing around with my Ford account online and the Sync stuff and figured out the last time my Sync system was updated was December 2012. I have the Sync with My Ford Touch and I was wondering how I should go about updating it. I found some vague directions but they weren't quite clear on everything.

I'm not quite sure what to say. My 2009 Ford sync system had no issues at all this new 16 is crazy even after the dealer just updated it still loses radio stations and connection to my phone and forgets Bluetooth audio and constantly indexes the USB. I personally called Ford and asked them how could a 2009 truck have no issues and play all the USB files including individual tracks by name ,but now there's too many for a 2016 to do it. This and the fact that i had too add leaf springs is about the only thing I hate about this new truck. good luck with your update

I decided to check MyFord acct to see if mine needs an update.

Saw that there is a service note about extended coverage on EGT sensors.

The only problems I have with mine is every once in a while it will just freeze up and then after a minute or 2 it will start going again, the other thing is sometimes my phone will connect to the truck before Im even all settled in and sometimes it won't connect at all. Sometimes I can try to reconnect and it will connect fast like there wasn't even a poblem to begin with and then sometimes I can't connect my phone for days and then just out of nowhere it will be working again. My phone is an Iphone 6s running the most up to date software

IF your truck needs updating the site will tell you. Best is to use a newly formatted USB drive. IIRC, the program creates what it needs on the drive. Following the directions wasn't tricky. It was along the lines of plugging the USB into the USB port and turning the truck on. Going to the update option and running it... I did it on my 2011 ONCE and it never needed updating after that.

If you are 100% up to date, it won't let you download anything...

I can't answer your question Radium, because in the 4 super duties I have had, none have had any radio issues. But then again, I rarely play music via USB. My phone's (Iphone and Samsung G5 Android) have not had bluetooth connectivity issues. I may phone calls often using bluetooth though.

Although there is a known bluetooth bug that if you are running something else that requires bluetooth while being connected it can cause connectivity issues. Torque Pro addresses one of the bugs in it's disclaimer. So I use my tablet to run TQ PRO and not my phone.

My suspension seems fine too, but having to add a leaf doesn't surprise me. I know lots of people that are not happy with Ford stock suspensions. Usually it revolves around the shocks though.

When my phone was connected via Bluetooth I was missing too many emails and texts that required quick response since the audio ding is automatically silenced when the phone is engaged with the sync system.

Now, I NEVER allow my phone to interact with the truck and it's a much easier situation for me. I just have my phone with me and the little Bluetooth earpiece sitting on the dash, when it rings I put the ear thingy in my ear and talk.

If I want music from my phone I plug the usb cable into the truck and find my music on the phone and let it play.

When my phone does properly connect to my truck Ive never had that problem. As long as my volume is switched to on and not vibrate when I'm listening to my music from my phone every phone, text, and email tone turns down the music and chimes through the speakers in the truck.

Download update to a thumb drive, plug into truck usb while running in park, let the update start than drive around for about a half hour or so or until update is complete.

Making me feel dumb over here, Wouldn't of thought it'd be that easy, I guess like radium said should I even do an update with the connectivity issues I'm having or could that be a topic for a new thread?

Sounds more like a question for sync tech support. And it is that easy, I just updated my truck.

An my truck reads the text message to me.

Which is entertaining at times. Since it doesn't do text slang well.

Hey gdiehl!

Because of the connectivity issues, I recommend checking your account to see if there is an update available. You can find the info here: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html Let me know if you run into any issues!

With this latest update, USB2 'technically' no longer exists, and lots of times if I'm on USB and shut off the truck, when I start it back up it is on AM. Not thrilled I did this update.

So if I'm reading this right ---
Those of us who have NOT updated Sync
---and---
Are NOT having any connectivity problems now
Should NOT do this update...
Correct??

No connectivity issues here, seems to vary from user to user.
