COP boots

Guys, I am making plans to pull and inspect the spark plugs on my 2003 F350 V10 with about 150k miles. How many of the boots do you think will have to be replaced? And could anyone recommend (or avoid) a boot kit brand?

Thanks, Paul

I've had good luck with generic boots. Replace all 10; they're inexpensive and keep the old ones without cracking as backups.

FROM A DIFFERENT POST :

"Use Motorcraft plugs and over torque them to 20-25 ft lbs. I would also replace the springs and boots for each coil pack. Rockauto has kits for this. Denso is preffered, if you have a failed coil they also sell Denso and Motorcraft. Denso was reported in a recent thread by The Tiger as the same thing with a additional sticker. Would be wise to at least have an extra."

Here is the coil pack boots I went with. As mentioned previously stick with the Motorcraft or Denso COP's. Replace all boots and springs.

Denso

More Information for DENSO 6710001

Below is what Harely refeerrenced.

15 year old Stock coil without boot vs new Motorcraft coil with boot. If you look at the coil body you can see some slight differences between what came stock on my 2001 and the new part. Notice the "B+" where the connector goes.

New Coils side by side. Look at the paint markings and the “B+”

Denso on top and Motorcraft on the bottom. Look at the boot and the circle markings.

Denso on the right. Look at the boot markings again “KW-###”

Peeling back the Denso sticker. Notice how they tried to cover the part number with black.

Denso sticker completely removed

For great COP boots I use NAPA's #702418. Belden USA-made, about $5 each---perfect world!
