I have a 2015 F-150 Scab, 5.0L, that I purchased on 31 July 2015. One of the issues that I have with it is the Speedometer is not properly calibrated. When I am driving on I-75, and I am doing 75 MPH, as indicated by the digital speedometer, the analog speedometer, is indicating 76 MPH. My stand alone Garmin GPS also indicates 76 MPH. When I set my Cruise Control on 75 MPH using the Analog Speedometer, the Digital Speedometer, indicates 74 MPH, and my Garmin indicates 75 MPH. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
The speedometers aren't certified like they are in police vehicles. I find the digital speedometer to be dead-on. GPS can float a bit because it's a time-average speed being calculated by the device. The analog speedometer does float - I believe +/- 3MPH is the spec.
If you've changed tires (different revolutions per mile), gearing, or pretty much anything else, you can also cause speedometer differences.
In short - 1MPH is well within tolerance. Nothing to worry about.
There isn't a fix. Unless you get a tuner that allows you to adjust tire size in very minute amounts. All vehicles, unless they have certified speedometers, will have this. Even with the best technology I doubt you'll find one that is exact.
I'm not worried about the actual MPH compared to the gauge, it's the digital display compared to the analog dial that is off by 1 mph... like the digital says 70 but analog shows 71, etc...
Did anyone else have this issue? I just bought a 16 with the 5.0 and the digital speedo matches my GPS, but the analog speedo is around 6mph slow so at a gance i'm usually speeding. This truck originally came out of Canada, didn't know if that could have anything to do with it.
Unless it`s calibrated from the factory, no analog speedometer will match a digital speedometer for accuracy and even then it won`t be the same.
Most of the time and in all vehicles that have analog speedo`s, they can be off anywhere between 3-10 percent.
I remember back in the late mid to late 80`s when I was really into Mustangs, Ford offered a replacement speedo for the Mustangs that was calibrated and it was the same speedo that was in the Police 5.0 Mustangs.
