Got Air?

Thinking of the best way to get onboard air on to my truck, i don't want to shell out a couple hundred for one of those "special" onboard air tanks. I though about using 2 scuba tanks, 80cu.ft each and hold 3000psi, good idea?

Got Air?

I got a used 20 lb CO2 tank for 75 off ebay with a recent test. I then got an adjustable CO2 regulator off a Pepsi distributor for 30 bucks and get refills for $12 at the welding supply place. I go wheeling about 2 times a month and I refill every 3 months or so. Depends, if I use the tank to run air tools very much, then I need a refill quicker.
I love CO2 and it works great for me. I still want to keep my AC so converting that to OBA is not an option.

Got Air?

Hi guys, I will tell you about my system hope it helps,. The compressor is a firestone air bag compressor, (if you want to go cheaper go down to your local auto wrecker find a olds or cady with rear air ride and use that compressor) next you need a pressure switch from a shop compressor (closed circuit under 80psi and open at 110psi) your local tool shop should be able to help you out. Use a relay to switch the circuit (let me know if you need a wiring diagram). For a air tank I used one from a dump truck or rig with air brakes, (they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with water drain valves, 2 smaller ones plumbed together gives you more reserve. You can hard plumb everything with copper or steel line ( not fun but workes great) I tried using shop air line rated at 150 psi , thought it would be good "not" (burst a line on my first trip) tried 300 psi line , good around town but first time on a long trip same thing. came to conclusion that heat was the problem tried that expensive heat sheild wrap "nope same thing" so I went all out used automotive propape hose (steel braid with cloth cover ) problem solved!. One other thing was to install a in dash led to let me know when the compressor was on (piece of mind can't a darn thing between the tires and that folwmaster tuned 460, but it keeps me smiling) let me know if you have any questions. regards.... Domenico
