i have a 2wd inline6 f150 that i just lifted 6" with 33" tires. now its a total slug! i heard a little about regearing it will help. i looked at the axle and it has 2.73 gears. sould i change and what gears should i have installed. thanks
YEAH, if you want your power back. i've got a 4" lift on my 2wd I6 and have had 32s on there and it didnt really hurt me to mcuh, but i have 3.55s. You might want to step up to 4.10s or atleast 3.55s
If you going to regear I would have to say do it once and do it right. Its not cheap. Probably 4.10 would be the best choice. My passing power went out the door when I moved up to 33's. Around town I don't even notice the big tires but on the HW thats a different story. It used to be I would NEVER have to take it out of OD unless I was going up a really steep hill or needing to pass someone "right now". Alot of it is due to the added rolling resistance of the bigger tires and added air resistance. So you will need to be turning more rpm at the same speed as before to get anywere near the same feel.
I have a COMPLETE rear #####embly with 3.55 gears that I took out of my 93 that has 70K on it and had no problems with. I took complete #####y out and installed complete Lightning rear(4.10 gears) in its place. I almost regret changing because the Lightning trac-loc was toasted and spider gears chewed up. I had to buy a new differential for the it and now have a lot of money in this new set-up. I would sell complete 3.55 rear for $300. It has brake lines, cables, brakes and drums with it and has been stored inside since I swapped it. About 6 weeks. I wanted to wait and make sure I liked the new rear before I sold it, but now I need the money. The drums are from the lightning rear and rusty. They are the same as all other truck 8.8's so I used mine and stuck the L ones on this 3.55 rear. Anyway, would only take 2 hours and you would be back on the road. I am in Arkansas. Don't know where you are. Shipping may be a prob if very far away.
