It looks like I got a bad one as it doesn't power up in another vehicle either.

If it doesn't see an rpm reference or wheel speed increase it won't come on.
If you hit the red circled button it should come on. If it doesn't see the rpm it will auto shut off in 15 seconds. That's normal.
Try it with the truck running.

Ok,I'll give that a try. Does that mean that I have to keep the truck running the whole time I do the programming?

If you're quick enough with the fingers you can shut the truck down. You'll have that 15 second time out if no buttons are pushed.

Print the numbers off and have them in front of you.....don't let the scangauge be idle for 15 seconds without pushing a button (even if you push the wrong one, you can go back and change it) and it won't time out on you, you don't need the engine engine running to do this......you just need to be mindful of the 15 second rule.

Nope, even with the engine running nothing. Kinda making me question the reliability of these things. I might look into some of the others .

Is it turning on when you hit the button with the red circle around it? Also, does your cigarette lighter socket have power? If not check the fuse. The OBDII plug power for the Scan Gauge II is on the same circuit as the cigarette lighter.

I don't blame you.....Scangauge isn't working out for ya, Maybe your OBD port has issues...or you just have a dead monitor. It isn't like it would be the first new product that was bad out of the box. Do you know anyone with a scangauge that could test your OBD port?

Yes,it backlights but stays on the trip more screen and never says connecting. Tried it on another vehicle same thing.

I've got a tuner for my SHO Taurus and hooked it up to the truck and it said communicating with vehicle, so I don't think the port is the issue.

I'd say you have your answer here. Take/send it back and exchange it for another are a different type of monitor.
