Should my completely stock 2003 Ex with a 7.3 PS have any trouble towing a 27ft, 7000 lb camper? I do have the brake controller. I might tow 4 or 5 times a year for up to 500 miles each way.
You won't have a problem. I tow a 32' TT, about 8K. More power than you every had (unless you had another PSD). With the trailer I can keep up with traffic at 55, 60, 65, or 70. I try to stay between 65 and 68. The PSD gets a little bit better fuel economy and the EGT's and Trans temp stay a slight bit cooler. Other than that tow away. I did put guages on my X and invested int he SuperCHip Micro tuner. In tow safe mode it is a dream to drive and tow, lots of reserve power and just cruises away.
I hauled a 10K Llb Fifth Wheel all around the Rockies this summer through some really high passes and I was blown away at the ease with which the PSD did its job. I have modified it somewhat with a K&D filter and reprogrammed the computer but you will have no problems towing that TT I am sure.
I have been towing a 9,000# trailer around the western US with a stock F250 PSD 4X4 and am very happy with the performance. Addmitted on 6 to 8% grades (uphill) it will slow down to 60 MPH and be maxed out on throttle but I can live with that. I could spend $$$$ to enhance the performance but I'm happy with it as is. (avg 11-12 MPG towing)
