Installed the new dash today. Dash was purchased through this site. It is nice quality.
The old dash put up a fight, and there weren't much left when I got through with it. It had some large cracks. It had seen some serious California sun. I did some dusting while in there. I had to remove the glove box and gauges. I don't see how it can be done otherwise.
I also replaced the monstrous flasher unit while I was in there. They had a large heavy metal unit that was slow and noisy. $2 later, faster and quieter. I was surprised that there was only 1 flasher unit. My 69 has 2, one for the blinkers and one for the emergency flashers. I had to put the flasher switch back together with a wire tie, as the switch fell apart. I'm afraid to count how many pieces of this truck are depending on a wire tie. The modern day duct tape and bailing wire multi-purpose solution.
I'll probably make some custom door panel using similar vinyl to that on the seat. They will allow for some speakers in the door.
Everything appears to be working well. If it weren't for a small very persistent exhaust leak, it wuld almost be legal :-)
Hey that looks great, nice job! Would a dash cover bother you? I got one on mine right after I bought this truck in '94 to keep the sun off the original virgin dash. Still looks great, I think it's helping.
Funny you should mention the flasher switch falling apart . Mine did the same thing when cleaning it. The crimp doesn't hold very well. Got all the parts back in and held together with a plastic wire tie. Hey, it's not as bad as my brother, he fixes his Burb with duct tape.
Nice looking piece. Don't ya hate when it makes you want to replace everything around it .
My 69 needed dash help and I recovered it with 1/2" foam and blue/black marble like vinyl. Worked out nice, and much cheaper than replacement dash. I then redid my door panels as such. Makes for a nice custom look, without the cost.
