Straight pipe questions (2)

I'm considering straight piping my 6.0 and have been seeing a lot of people using the MBRP brand....but also seeing that many have had a problem with fitment. Is this a product issue or a method of install issue? My other question is this: is it really that much better to increase the diameter of the straight pipe rather than just remove the cat and muffler on the original exhaust and replace those sections with straight pipe? Bear in mind I'm not looking to get that 'big truck sound' or change the sound at all really, just help relieve the EGT a bit when towing. I am also going to do the CCV bypass at the same time for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't bother with the ccv. No gains to be had.

Imo if you are going to do anything with the exhaust put a turbo back kit on it and be done with it. The stock down pipe is pretty bad looking.

I'm thinking about eliminating the oil in the CAC and pipes/boots with the CCV reroute to atmosphere, As far as the straight pipe issue if the existing pipe is not bad/leaking why wouldn't it be just as well to remove the cat and muffler for now? deal with the fitment problems at the turbo later on? I'm looking for the easy way out Maybe you could tell that anyway

You're headed in the right direction upgrading the exhaust. Given that you're still reasonably stock and running stock injectors, I'd strongly recommend a kit with a 3.5 inch downpipe and not a 4 inch downpipe.

I say this because I had fitment issues with the 4 inch downpipe and it also drastically affected my spool time tuned or not. It also created a lag that tuning helped, but could never solve. My mileage was also around 13-14 mpg no matter what I did.

It wasn't until I fitted a Diamond Eye 3.5 inch downpipe that my spool was much better, the lag was gone, and I actually picked up 2 mpg.

If it was me I would go with the MBRP system that has the muffler. I'm my opinion the sound is awesome. It's not to loud not to quiet, and when you get down on the pedal it will bark just perfect but you you wont heard from 4 neighborhoods over

Also whatever you do use band clamps to put it together. You'll have more adjustment when installing, and if for whatever reason you need to remove a piece later you can! The U bolts that come with the kit will permanently lock the pipes together. I just posted a thread here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ifference.html

I'm wanting to do the CCV re route also, can't stand a dirty intake and the hand full of oil that poured out of my cac tube when I took it off the other day. Vent it!

I've put a few systems on these trucks, with that being said,I prefer the Diamond Eye system. Also Diamond Eye makes adapters to fit the stock set ups to delete the cat and muffler. I'm currently running their dual 4 inch and love it......price was right too

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm 100% stock EGR cooler and all. I think I'm just going to replace my Cat and Muffler now with straight pipe and do the reroute with the CCV and see how that works out. I believe the OEM exhaust is 3" all the way correct? Or does it come off the turbo bigger and is reduced along the way? I ask because I've never looked. Like I said, all I'm trying to do is eliminate some heat in the EGT's when towing my camper, nothing radical here. However If just doing the cat/muf delete will make it a lot louder I will do something other than that, I outgrew loud exhaust after my first million miles in a semi, I wouldn't mind a little increase in dba's but the less the better. And I agree on the band clamps too, that's all I use on my big trucks and know they work well.

Can you post a link to your system and the clamps? How many did you end up using?

I installed the muffler/cat delete pipes on the stock exhaust and love it. It isn't really loud until you put your foot down.

Mine is straight piped as well with just two delete pipes on the stock exhaust. I would categorize it as loud - so much so that I'm considering putting the muffler (but not the cat) back on.

I enjoy the sound, but I've been advised and can appreciate that my neighbors do not. Also gets obnoxious quite quickly when towing.

I have cat and mufflet delete pipes. For about 5 years. Very happy with it. Not as loud as 4". Love it. And much cheaper.
Also since I live in CA having the cat delete pipe is very convenient.

You guys with the cat muffler deletes in the stock exhaust, did you manufacture your pipe sections or do you know of somewhere that they can be had ready made?
If ready made do you have a link to where they are sold? Thanks for any help here.

I got mine from RiffRaff diesel.

Diamond Eye 3.5" T409 Stainless Cat OEM Offroad Pipe (sku 165034)

Stock Muffler Delete Pipe 00-05 (sku DF350MRPL)

Diamond Eye 3.5" TORCA Accu Seal Exhaust Clamps (sku BC350A)

While I imagine they fit the same, make sure that the above aren't just excursion specific. RiffRaff should have all you need.

I fit a 4" down pipe with NO problem's The bigger the down pipe the faster the turbo will spool that is a scientific fact, The larger down pipe creates a larger pressure differential thus spooling your turbo faster, The larger down pipe and exhaust also allows for the Hot exhaust gases to expand faster dropping it's Heat energy allowing for an even lower pressure thus creating a greater pressure differential allowing gases thru the turbo at a greater rate and faster removal of hot exhaust gases will help lower EGT's.
