New Bronco Problems

I bought a 1995 Bronco with a 5.8 engine and push button 4X4. I'm having a few problems. It shifts harshly, sometimes it doesn't shift into a higher gear, it idles too high, it dies, but starts again, it smells like it is running too rich, I can't tell if high four wheel drive is engaging, the light does come on and I hear clicking from the passenger kicker panel, low four the light does not come on and I hear a weak click after pressing the button the second time.

I pulled KOEO Codes:

111 - System checks OK
123 - TP is/was high or short to power - TPS
128 - MAP - Vacuum has not been charging - check vacuum lines - MAP
556 - Fuel pump relay primary circuit fault - power / fuel pump circuits.

I don't know what to do with this information, other than check and/ or replace the vacuum lines and to pull the motor on the transfer case and clean it.

I'm reading previous post and learning, but I am on information overload and I understand less than half of what I read.

Will the fault codes that I have cause the problems I have described?

KOER
128 again or a 1 then a 28. I don't see a listing for 28.
998 I don't see this listed.

I found a black tube that isn't connected to anything, it is in a loom with a red tube going to the tin can, it comes out over the alternator. The other is a yellow tube on the top rear engine in a cluster of other tubes. I can't see where either is supposed
to go.

You need to check and probably readjust the setting on your TPS. I'm guessing someone replaced it at some point, and didn't realize it had to be adjusted. Search the forum for instructions on that, its pretty easy.

You probably have a bunch of vacuum leaks at this point. You can carefully use starting fluid to spray around suspect areas on the engine while its idling to find them. Th engine will rev if it sucks in the starting fluid from somewhere it shouldn't be able to. This is a common problem, hopefully yours is still fairly factory, and you can identify and repair/replace lines one at a time.

I'm not sure on the fuel pump circuit, I'm sure someone else will chime in on that at some point.

I have another blinking light on the dash, my bronco is missing the bezel, so I don't know what the light is illuminating. It is blinking 34.

There should be a vacuum line diagram on the hood. You can replace all of the vacuum tubing with vacuum hose, most of the existing tubing will probably fall apart when you start trying to reconnect the broken pieces. I'd start there and check the codes again.

For the other trouble codes, the factory shop manual gives the procedures for evaluating each code. A Haynes or Chilton may have this, I'm not sure, but do know that an online alldatadiy.com subscription would have it.

I see the vacuum diagram sticker, but it is hard to read. I took a picture of it and I can blow it up to read. It has abbreviation I don't know. I need to find a source for vacuum lines. My Ford Dealership hasn't had them for years. They don't seem to have much for a Bronco.

I used 5/32" vacuum hose from the parts store to replace all lines on my 93 with a 302. I used about 25-ft of it and two 5/32" tees as well. Just replace one line at a time and you'll be fine. You can buy replacement split wire loom from a big box store. I used this from Lowes, the 3/8" worked ok but 1/2" fits a little easier...

Make sure the vacuum line to you map sensor is connected as well. With the other open vacuum lines, if you can't find where they go, just cap them for now to aid in troubleshooting. That way you can see if it helps get rid of the map code. Then you can later learn the vacuum routing better to see what goes where.

Also you'll want to check the TPS as well like masseysbronco said. Here is a link that explains the whole TPS thing in pretty good detail: Throttle Position Sensor Testing, Replacement and Adjustment - Ford Bronco Forum

Sorry about the link to a different forum, but I couldn't find one here!

Also I don't have much experience with the fuel pump wiring setup either so I can't help you there. Hopefully it's nothing too bad and someone can chime in soon.

Here is the procedure from the shop manual on a 1993 302 for code 123. I'm not sure if it is the same for a 1995 with the 351, but maybe it will help...

This is the Vacuum Hose Routing Diagram on my hood. It looks pretty simple, BUT, the actual layout is different. I have many more vacuum hoses than is indicated.

I plugged the "correct" vacuum hose into it and the idle is correct now. It isn't shifting as harshly now. I'll check for fault codes later and run it out on the highway.

OK, the internet says this is the MAP. Where should it be secured on my 95? I can't find any place it might go.

On my 1993 (302) it's mounted to a bracket on the passenger firewall...
