Hi all, I'm looking into putting on a heavy duty front and rear bumper on my '75. I have played around a little online and haven't found any bolt ons which really didn't surprise me. Is it possible to fab up a mount for one of those iron cross or smittybuilt bumpers that was meant for an OBS or something? Or am I better off building the whole thing myself?
Thanks!
Try going to a steel distributor that has a plasma or water jet table and press brake, usually you can talk to a programmer and tell them your idea and they will measure your truck there and get you a 3d drawing of it, after you see it and change anything, they will cut and form it, all you have to do is weld it up and paint. It's a lot cheaper than you might think, and the end result is great. I use to work at a steel place, and we would have at least one person every week come in and do that. Plus its a one off bumper only you will have.
Not sure if they have a bolt on sort of proposition, but I've been waiting to save my pennies to pick up a pair of bumpers from Reunel.........they're beasts, AND they can produce them out of heavy grade stainless steel, which is polished to a chrome finish. To give you an idea of how beefy these things are, their rear bumper has an integrated class V hitch......I don't know about you, but I've never heard of a class V bumper hitch until I found them.
I know they can mount to a large number of Ford products, so you might want to give them a call...........but be warned..........their products are NOT cheap. Last I looked, the front bumper with the options I wanted was about $3300, and the rear bumper was around $1500.
ironbull has bolt on ones for the front but the reviews on them aren't the greatest. move bumpers has weld it yourself options for front and rear and they are affordable. https://www.movebumpers.com/buy-diy-bumper-kits.htm
