I have pushed mine out both ways. As long as it clears the stud and nut on the tie rod end it will go either way.

I had to hammer mine out. They do slide out. They are a **** to get out. I slid mine out to the left as your looking at your picture. It took a good 5-6 really hard whacks before I saw it start to budge

Thanks for the suggestion but not an option right now so this doesn't really help.

I have quickly realized that the "force" used on these old trucks is completely different than when I work on my 300. With the Chrysler, everything is just soft and slow when attacking an issue. Do that with these old girls and I imagine they just sit there and think, what the hell? Act like a man..haha. The things and "persuasion" that I have done, I would never do on a modern car..haha

As said, a stout punch and hammer works... some penetrating oil first does not hurt.

I have been able to clean up the punch marks on the caliper "keys" on a bench grinder and re-use them... though I understand they are available at AP stores.

A light coat of grease or anti-seize on re-installation helps next time. Also a good idea to lightly clean sliding points for the caliper and keys with a flat file before re-install.

Maybe not now but it will answer mundane questions such as this...

Put one on your shopping list.

Sorry if my question irritated you and that you find it "mundane." In the future please don't feel obligated to reply to questions that are not worthy of your time and effort. Answering a question with "buy a repair manual" is pretty lame and not really helpful.
Try to remember that everyone is not at the same skill level and things that may seem mundane or obvious to some people are first time experiences for others.
Also situations are different for different people on this forum. Things are completely different for the guy with a shop, welder, paint booth and plenty of money than for the guy who doesn't have those things and who is working out of his driveway. But the love for these trucks is still the same in both of them and that's what these forums are about.

Dont feel to bad man. Ive done breaks on almost every truck, from s10 to Mack dump trucks. But when i first bought my 78 and whent to change the brakes i had a hell of a time doing so....until i noticed i forgot to take the retaining bolt off!!!....haha i felt sooo stupid and came to the conclusion that s#*!t happens and God made beer!

So at least you took the bolt off first!!!
