I've tried to convince my wife I need to buy an M35A2 deuce and a half or two and a half, for all of you who don't know thats a two and a half ton 6x6 cargo truck used for years by the military. The M35A2 model was one of the later model turbocharged ones, it didn't really have much more power than the non turbo but it smoked less.
Wives always have to ask "What would you use it for?" Use it! I didn't want it so I could use it, I just want one. I could take it out to drive through the river bottom now and again and I think there is even a local club for owners of military vehicles. Hell there's a club for everything now, there's even a gay motorcycle club, no I don't have a motorcycle.
Speaking of driving around the river bottom, thats where all the quad riders and dirt bikers go, I could make a sign with four inch letters and mount it on the front bumper it would say "IF YOU CAN READ THIS I CANNOT SEE YOU". That would work around town also, I would have to get a cover for it though.
Wives always seem to think things have to have some use, unless of course its jewelry.
Why do you want an old GMC/Studebaker 6x6? Its a cheby. You need to get an M26 Greyhound - built by Ford. 6x6 as well, not to mention is has a 37mm gun, a ma deuce, and a .30 cal.
No I don't want the old old one, although those are entirely collectable, I want the later model with the multifuel/diesel continental engine, its a six not the best in the world but dependable, the proper designation for the engine if I remember right is LD-465T. The Koreans even made a copy of it, it was for the most part interchangable you could spot them quick by a minor difference in the hood and they used a licence built MAN diesel.
i drove one before and they are absolutely rediculously fun they have soooo much power and you feel like you are on top of the world. its like your superman but instead of flying you can drive through 10 feet of water and your engine can run off anything from pure motor oil (when the enignes all warmed up ) to jet fuel. now that is just crazy
my friend and his dad have 2 duece and a halfs and 3 original army jeeps, 2 of which are completely restored with original and reproduction ford parts. he drove a duece and a half to school a few times.
Another example of how wives see things differently than we do, she has an F250 PSD crew cab 4x4 and she won't blink about the acccessories such as electric steps a cap and engine improvements like Donaldson air intake and other aftermarket goodies.
I was looking at a Perkins turbo six about 350 cubes equivalent smaller and lighter than the Cummins and I was speculating that if I bought one of them and mated it up to a five speed I could upgrade my 84 F150 4x4, I don't need it to be as powerful as the PSD after all we have one of those, but the Perkins would be a good fit and has decent power, just about right in my old F150.
She says "Why? Why don't you just buy a new truck?" I don't even try to explain any more, Its the same with my old courier, its got a 2.3 liter engine and an outfit called Essliger has a four liter version of the 2.3, taller block and stroked crank I think it would be great in my courier with a good set of headers and fuel injection, rough but hot. I would park it next to the duece.
I'm not married, but I will tell you how my brother in law gets his toys. Just figure out what the vehicle will cost and tell your wife she can buy something of equal value. She can't argue with that logic!
