'87 4.9L to replace '96 4.9L Engine Swap?

Just got a 1987 F150, 4.9L. Already have a 1996 F150 with the 4.9L. Motor is done. Can I swap the two?, If so what is it that needs to be changed?

So you want to use the '87 engine in the '96?

The easiest way to go about it is to unbolt everything from the '96 block, and bolt it onto the '87 block. Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, all the wiring and all the sensors. You will also have to swap the front cover and crank pulley, since the 1996 has a special crank sensor and trigger wheel that the '87 doesn't have.

Ugh. The '87 is a little beat up but appears to only have surface rust? So jealous of you guys not in the salt belt.

Hi,
Just look at it as a long block install!

I think that is the smartest move, then take it to a Mechanic that can put it on a diagnostic machine and "fine tune" it!
