Mass air conversion

O.K. guys/gals i have read everything i can regarding this mass air conversion thing and still have a couple questions.
I have an 88 f250 5.8l, c-6, 3:55 gears, 4x4 extended cab. the motor is tired and will need a rebuild. i use the truck for hauling horses and also have a camper so i am obviously interested in gaining more torque. I have heard/read that before major engine mods i should upgrade to the mass air system. The problem is i have also read that this won't work with the c-6 tranny.
i saw an ad in the paper for a complete harness, computer etc. from a 1994 with a 5spd that only has 20,000 km on it. my questions are:
1.) does this truck have Mass air or speed density cause of the 5spd?
2.) if so can it be used with an automatic?
3.) if it can be used with an automatic, why not the c-6?
4.) he's asking $250.00 Canadian so that's like $2.00 american Is that a deal?

really appreciate any info!

thanks!
