I have a 96 F150 and I need new rotors Defintely. Mine are a one piece hub and rotor combined. I called Ford and they want $130 a piece!!! Anybody know of a better source for new rotors?
Yeah, I have used the Raybestos rotors on my F250. They are really nice and less than half what the dealer charges. And I think they have a several year guarantee.
There are also imports(usually Chinese) available for really cheap. I have seen 2 types at NAPA, the import el cheapo about 1/4 price of new, I have heard these don't have a lot of meat on them so they may warp and you won't get many turnings in the future. The 5(?)year guarantee for about 1/3 price. And then the lifetime for about 3/5 price of new. I went with the Raybestos from another store and they are really nicely made.
BTW on an F250 heavy duty the rotors are removable from the hub, but Ford will not sell the rotors alone. The stores do sell the rotors alone so that is why it is a lot cheaper. Also note that the junk yards charge almost the same as new price for used, what a rip.
I'm not sure about your 2wd rotor but i know that for my 95 F-150 with four wheel drive i got a set of cross drilled rotors from Summit Racing and i love them, the brakes stop faster, run cooler, and suprisingly enough the rotors were only 95 bucks a piece.
Check out slotted rotors they are not prone to cracking like cross drilled and they are a far superior rotor than stock.I have installed a set on my 92 f150 4x4 reg s\b and they are awesome the brake feel is incredible. I am shure that the combination of hawk performance brake pads and the slotted rotors are equally responsible for the excellent control I now have with my brakes no matter what the traction.
