Question 77 Bronco 302 emissions

i recently purchased a sweet 1977 Bronco Sport. unfortunatley the previous owner lived in miss. and i live in tenn. miss. doesn't have emissions testing tenn. does. the previous owner removed any semblance of emission equipment from the vehicle. now i'm faced with putting it back. the current intake is a performance 289 edelbrock no egr. so that's got to go. what this leaves is me asking for any information, direction or reference to what needs to go back on this engine. i know i've got to add cats and an egr valve but what else and how does it all go together. if anybody can point me in the right direction i would certainly appreciate it. btw, after doing research on the internet for a while now, this is so far one the best forums i've come across. keep up the good work. thanks

77 Bronco 302 emissions

I had a 302 F150 in Indiana, bought in 1978.

It didn't have any emissions at all.... and that may be due to it ran on leaded gas -- years ago trucks didn't have to pass emissions testing (except for California, perhaps).

I would go to the library, or dealership, and get the factory engine manual for your '77.

When I bought my F150 it was from a dealership, so the exhaust would have to be per factory specs -- and federal for the time. If you check into your state's emissions requirements you may also find out that being over 20 years old the emissions are not required - or the testing - for the vehicle now (Colorado has a similiar law that gets the old 15+ year old cars thru the testing and not have 'em get sent to the junk yard).

Back to my F150. I don't recall any emissions for the cat -- I had replaced the mufflers with Cherry Bombs and there weren't any cats, or brackets at the exhaust manifolds.

Get a factory manual and go from there.... hope this didn't take up too much of anyone's time.
