Is it possible to disconnect or alter the odometer reading(only 56k miles) on my 2000 F250? There are a things that are making me a bit uneasy like the column shifter is really loose, engine seams a bit under powered, the leather on the drivers seat is a bit more warn the one would think with 56k miles, shocks are shot(rears are falling apart) and it's driving gear and underbelly have a good amount of rust(though it was from Oregon) to name a few. The dash is actually white which looked kind of odd to me but I remember there was more of a trend of that sort of thing for a while. I did a car fax report on it and saw it had a few times that the mileage was listed but I am getting suspicious...I would appreciate any comments from those that have knowledge and experience with this sort of thing, and what type of recourse if any I may have. I am planning to take it to the dealership as well for a diagnostic. Thank you for your input
guy also waited to after the paperwork was signed and we were outside the bank to divulge there was an issue with 3 of the door locks no opperating by remote, and that the trailer hitch he "left on for me" was rusted/stuck and needed to be heated or something to get it to come out...giving me a real bad taste in my mouth and could not sleep last night
While it is possible the instrument cluster was changed, it doesn't seem likely.
Keep in mind that most of the wear you are describing happens when a person is getting in/out of the truck and operating the shift lever, etc.
In other words, a truck that was driven 3 miles to the corner market and back every day is going to show a lot more wear and tear than a truck that was driven that same 42 miles once a week or 168 miles once a month.
Exactly. I wouldn't be worried about someone messing with the odometer. It's probably completely accurate and is consistent with the rate of use from the Carfax.
That's not a stock dash face on a 2000. It's a black background with white lettering on my 00 Lariat. I don't recall seeing any that had a white face stock. What kind of shape is the steering wheel? It will have minimal to moderate wear if it's only had 56k on it. I'm at 240k on the current steering wheel, which was replaced at about 100k. There's obvious wear where I hold it. What about the carpets? What kind of wear do they indicate? The underneath rust would be more normal for the area, as would be the trailer hitch rusted on.
I'm guessing that the PO installed instrument cluster overlays such as those available from ebay or blackcatcustoms.
That cluster looks like it's from an XLT trim to me. If I were to replace the cluster in an XL, I'd go with a Lariat trim cluster. Not to mention both the XLT and Lariat clusters weren't white either.
It is very difficult to alter the mileage & have the numbers line up. Your dash looks nice.
If the truck sat outside on gravel or dirt it will rust on the bottom. We called it lot rot.
I've never had a set of Ford shocks last long on the rear of my trucks. I do a lot of towing and hauling so maybe that was the reason.
If the ball mount is rusted in, you might end up replacing the hitch.
My 2001 F150 drivers seat showed wear on the side bolsters fairly early however they ended up staying in good shape till I sold the truck.
What engine do you have? The 5.4L always felt underpowered in the F250.
Does it run and drive good? You could always have a mechanic look it over for signs of wear.
Took it in to my local dealer today for the diagnostic inspection and I'm feeling much better about it now. everything seams to be fairly good, aside from the few things mentioned before, and I'm pretty certain it's the true mileage. He did a bunch of things like adding tons of chrome, bug defectors, those plastic thingies over the windows(whatever those are called lol), so I wouldn't be surprised if he did change the color of the gauge cluster. The guy is a bit of a tool so I don't really need to converse with him any longer...thanks for all your help fella's I fell much better about my purchase now...I can now look forward to spending some time and $ on this beast to make it into the toy I was hoping it would be.
