The 460 in my 78 F250 is getting bad compression on a cylinder. (40 PSI with the others at 120-140)
I graduate from high school at the end of May so I am planning to pull right after that probably Memorial day weekend.
I need to find someone or a shop to machine and assemble the new engine for me since I have no knowledge of how to build a engine.
I want to make it better than stock, I already have a Weiand Stealth intake and a 750CFM Holley carb already on it that I want to reuse.
I also have a pair of D0VE-C at my uncles for use on the rebuilt engine.
Who do you guys know of that builds a good engine? I don't mind driving some (I'm in OKC) to get it done right.
I have already contacted Boyd's in Norman and Henson's in Yukon both with no response.
I daily drive this truck and need to get it running good before college starts in August.
Get a leak down tester and test the bad cylinder. It may turn out that you have a bad valve or headgasket, and that set of heads you have could be the fix. I'm not saying don't take the motor in, just that maybe it will only need cleaned up and checked in and out.

I already have done a wet compression test on the bad cylinder by putting a small amount of oil into the cylinder and compression shot up to 90PSI from 40 PSI so I believe the piston rings are going bad.
He said $2500 to rebuild it
Said $400 extra to port the heads.
Also said he could reuse the Cam unless I really want a new one.
How do those prices sound?
He said he is 2 months behind so I'm still looking for other machine shops to do the work.
I haven't priced any big block Ford crate motors lately, but we just bought a fresh 302 long lock from Oriellys for $1300. They priced me a Dodge 360 smallblock at $2300. So that's pretty close I think. Burt is usually a tad higher, but does great work.
