I've got to move my truck by next week cause I have a load of block coming and my driveway is getting too blocked up (That doesn't sound right). With that said, it looks like I'm going to "fix" it to run till I can tear it all down and pull the motor. I lost my window over at my friends shop due to my heart issues so I'm going to make a fix to get it running and driveable with out any issues.I know it's not like nobody has pulled and motor and not done the work in the driveway before, but for what I have planned I need the shop for the ease of mods and running around. I am going to take pictures along the way,and if I can remember how to load them in I will. If not I'll sent them to Sean ,he'll get them up I'm sure
Well, its not as soon as I wanted but I'm into it. Here's the main problem. If you look in the corner by the up pipe you can see the crack. I have a new plate and branch tube, but I have to drop the trans or take the motor out. I got to make a decision before I get myself crazy.
For the crack why not a bit of JB WELD to seal the crack so it does not dribble
all over the place. I would say RTV but you need that really clean to stick well.
Now for the blocked up driveway some Phillips' Genuine Milk of Magnesia
That should get it all cleared out.
If it's really blocked up and the Phillips does not get it moving then
some good old Magnesium Citrate will. Just don't be down stream.
Hey Bill,, did the branch tube crack? Toss the new discharge fitting on and throw some air at it. There is some flex in it,, maybe the branch tube isn't ruptured. It'd be easy enough to air test right now.
How far does the crack go?? Past the bell housing?? Maybe caution to the wind and drop some loctite in it. It might ooze around,, but should work its way down. Couple drips a day. I'd just brake clean in the crack before loctite. They call for 24 hr full cure. Could put some tape on both sides that you can reach to help channel it. This would obviously depend on the branch tube being good.
I'm assuming original stc blown?? Have you air tested yet with the new fitting?? Remember,, 5 turns on the fitting,, I wouldn't go less than 4. So you might have to bolt the pump to the branch tube,, then pull it back (bending the branch tube back). Risky. But consequences are fairly low. Worst case,, tear it down n fix it right,,, now.
I was debating that Ant, I got to check with air,as I need the truck in 3 weeks and I'm not supposed to be doing this kind of work yet according to the doc.Wife wants me to sell both trucks and get a newer one,but I think not, as this truck has low miles. I'm deleting it anyway, so the up pipe will be out of the way and maybe able to arch weld it,we shall see.......
STC fitting let loose. The worse part was I knew it needed to be done, but life gets in the way sometimes. I should have not gambled with it, but as you know....................
I've seen the JB weld method done, was done by respected shop. Customer just did not want to spend that much on labor......shop said "ok, no promise how long it will hold but we will get as much in there as we can"
30k miles later, no leaks.
Bill, that aluminium is gonna weld like crap with all those contaminants, not?
Just thinking back the the days of welding boat props, be it stainless or aluminium, the props that sat in the water all season in a wet slip welded like chicken ****. Nothing more frustrating than trying to feed welding rod into the abyss that keeps bubbling up.

On top of the contamination it's also cast aluminum.
Yea I knew that I've changed them on the 06 and 05 I previously had. I also now own another 05 with the the 6.0. Just wondering what was meant by letting go and why it cracked the tube. Mainly want to see if there is something I should do as pm. Especially since I have a new STC on the shelf that I didn't end up needing on a previous truck because the hpop came with one. According to all the dealer history the 6.0 I bought a month ago the STC has never been done.
