Water pump change

Plan on changing my water pump in the next day or two. Truck is a 2000 Ranger, 2.5L with 185,000+ miles. Just wondering if there are any hints/gotcha's that may not be in the manual.

Any advice on bleeding the coolant after I get it back together?

does it call for changing timing belt at the same time? Most 4 cyls do since you pull the timing cover to change the pump!

I will take a close look at it. It's been on the truck for roughly 50,000 miles.

well it was just a thought as most of these things are to be replaced at 75-100000 mile intervals and it is a PIA to have to do something after you had been in there recently to begin with.

Bleeding the coolant system was easier than I thought. The service manual I have says to disconnect a heater hose at the heater core and run the engine until coolant started running out. I disconnected a hose when I started refilling the radiator and could hear burbling from the open hose. Once I filled the radiator and degas bottle, it took no time at all for coolant to run out of the heater core.

Temps came up nice and got hot air from the vents in the cab. After it cooled down, it took about a couple cups to top off the coolant.
