My serpentine belt popped off last night at about 80 miles an hour. It didn't break and there doesn't appear to be any unusual wear on it. I've replaced tensioner and idler pulleys and the belt. It appears tight and i can barely get a 90 degree twist out of it. Every time I try to turn the motor over it pops off. I'm out of ideas. Any help?
Finally got someone out here that kinda knows what he's doing. He's saying it's too much drag in the water pump. Would make sense. Motors aren't my thing, but I'll try until I figure it out. Keeping my fingers crossed for now
It could be the water pump going. I take it its a 4 cylinder
Changed out the water pump today, and I'm mobile again. Wasn't completely shot but bad enough I guess. Also found out the bearing in the A/C compressor is starting to deteriorate.
If the cost to repair the AC is too high, (and you can live without it like we can in Northern Maine) I believe that a shorter belt is available that bypasses the AC.
