Oil filter mount loose

Hi all, I have a 2015 super duty 6.7 4X4. I changed the oil today and when I remove the old filter, i always wipe the gasket mating surface clean. Helps to make sure you didn't leave the old gasket or material in place. The large hollow threaded tube that the filter screws onto was loose and backed out of the socket 2-3 turns. It probably unthreaded when removing the old filter. I put a 30mm socket on it and tightened it back up. I couldn't find any torque specs for it so I just gave it a good pull on the 'ol wrench. Has anybody else ever encountered this? Is this normal or should I have the dealer check it out? Thanks in advance!!

I haven't seen that. Let's hope it was "just loose". I'd be interested to know if it unscrews all the way - maybe yours just never got seated properly. Keep an eye out for leaks ... one would think that as long as your filter doesn't leak, the threaded mount is not moving. Good luck -

Happened to me on 2011. I put a bit of red lock-tite on the motor side threads and tightened it up. No problem after that.

If I remember correctly I called my dealer for the torque value, but I can't remember what it was.

Thanks guys, this is the first time I have had one loose also, and I have been changing my own oil for the last 35 years. If I had unthreaded it more, it would have come out of the truck. It looks like a plumbing nipple so I will hope for the best, hope it is tight enough and check again at next oil change.

You will be ok. When mine was loose, I did thread mine all the way out so I could clean it and put some loctite on it.

Since you snugged it, it will hold for this oil change (probably many others too). Plus you are helping to keep it tight when tightening the filter as well. It's when you unthread the filter that it may loosen up again.

Ok, I guess I have no real reason for concern as a few of you have experienced the same issue. Next oil change I will probably lock-tite it in. The last oil change was the free one from the dealer and the filter was on so tight it collapsed with the filter wrench. That's why I thought I broke something. Thanks for all the responses.
