'96 ranger power steering replacement

I'm in the middle of replacing my pump. With the new pump are a plastic washer and a small rubber o-ring but no idea or instruction where they are supposed to go. Any Ideas? They didn't know at auto zone and I haven't heard them mentioned on any youtube video. I found a crushed torn up washer similar to the plastic one in my catch pan. Maybe it is supposed to go in around the high pressure hose connection.

Of course they wouldn't know. Knowledgeable parts (wo)men have been replaced by the computer.
Yep, goes on the hose. The washer goes between the hose and the pump. The O-ring on the hose allowed it to move and still remain leak-free.
If you didn't get a Ford or Motorcraft replacement pump, odds are that it will whine.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that the plastic washer is supposed to be sandwiched between the the metal fitting on the reservoir and the metal fitting on the high pressure hose. But where to put the o-ring? Do you force the fitting off of the end of the high pressure hose and then try and stick the new o-ring in?
Thanks again for the help

For a second thought does the o-ring kind of fit over the end of the cone shaped metal end of the hose where it also would be sandwiched between the hose fitting and the reservoir?

The o-ring should go on the end of the high pressure hose. Move the nut away from the end of the hose and you should see where it sits. Unless your application doesn't take one?

Update. I spent some time with one of the knowledgeable reps at a different store. We ended up pulling out a new high pressure hose and it had the white seal on the end. There was no way that the seal that came with the replacement pump would ever fit on the end of the hose. So I bought a new hose. The directions for the new hose has a diagram showing three different end types on the high pressure hoses so maybe the seal fits on one of the other two types.
