I recently lowered my '66 and am about to put new wheels on it. I was thinking 17" Smoothies with whitewalls, but they are super expensive in that size. Any suggestions? Do you think I need to drop the front end some more?
yes if you have a gap over the new wheels and tires it will look funny. lower is always better. lower it as much as you think you should, then add and inch or two
Here's what 17" rims look like on a lowered 64 Long Bed.
235/45/17 on 17" x 8" in front and 285/40/17 on 17" x 10" in rear.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread with pictures of my truck, but I do want you to see what it would look like lowered with 17" rims.
I think it looks good. The front fender opening makes it look higher but the lower edge of the body looks pretty level. If I was going to drop it further, I'd drop the front and rear by an equal amount.

My opinion is, the long bed looks better lowered than the short beds. If you are going to lower, both the front and rear should be level.
