this one is on Black (Stock 78). breaks barely work, very hard pedal, hardware in the rear looks good but i haven't checked the disks up front yet. hopefully going to bleed the system tonight. My question though, is can i tell anything about my brake problem by the fact that when running, and the break pedal is depressed, it seems to load the engine or something and rpms drop. my first thought is vacuum leak at the booster or something but i am not familiar with how the booster works so i dont know. does this sound likely? or is there something else it could point to? What do you think? Thanks.
Well, I guess this one was so obvious that no-one wanted to bother??? I replaced the vacuum check valve on the booster and the problem seems to have gone away. now just need to finish bleeding the front lines.
I didn't realize there is a check valve at the brake diaphram. When our Bronco diaphram went bad the power brakes worked as long as the engine was running but as soon as the engine was shut off there were no more power brakes. There would have to be a check valve to hold the vacuum at the diaphram which allows at least two more brake applications before the vacuum is gone. Glad you got it fixed. Patrick
