Not sure where to post this but I've got a 97 expe 5.4, one of the running tail lights aren't working. The bulb is fine, turn signal and brake light work fine, even changed tho bulb just incase, still no luck. Checked all the fuses and they all seem to be fine. it's only the right side tail light that doesn't seem to come on when I turn on the head lights
Check power and ground at the bulb. Power on Brown wire, Ground on Black.
And trace it back till you find power. Check all splices and plugs. Don't assume that because a plug is in all the way that it is conducting. Been there done that on a fuel gauge.
Stop/Turn is on a separate power circuit than Tails. Both tails and the license plate lights share the same power circuit. All lights on the rear (minus the high mount brake lights) use the same ground.
Somewhere, a wire got cut, if nothing else is affected, and the stop/turn work.
Could it be that someone hooked up a trailer wire harness and hooked into something they shouldn't have?
I've had the truck for awhile, bought it from some kid who didn't maintain it much, the oil filter was atleast 4 years old and the truck had the original plugs and coils still in it.. I don't think he modified any wiring harness. The problem just started recently for me tho
Would like to leave an update. There wasn't any power going through to the license plates lights and I'm guessing they are on the same circuit or something. I disconnected and bypassed them and ran the power straight into the running tail light connection, seems to be working fine for me like that.
